5 Things Your Competitors Can Teach You About Security

Why has your business been broken into, but your competitor's hasn’t? Or maybe yours hasn’t, but you notice that your competitors seem to be getting higher security. So... should you?

Security is something that is always worth investing in as it will reduce your business' vunerability. You may think ‘Oh well it's all covered by insurance’, but do you really want to have to go through all that hassle? Then to have your insurance go up next year? This can be easily preventable. Below is a list of things your competitors can teach you about security.

1. Name In Lights

Ever notice how well lit your competitor's premises are at night? Well this isn't just so they have their name in lights to steal your customers, but for an altogether different reason. By having their building well lit, it allows potential intruders to be easily seen approaching the building, making it hard not to look suspicious.

2. Smile, You're On Camera

A sign many companies choose to have positioned in an easy to see place. This is not there for friendly amusement, but as a warning to anyone thinking it may be an easy target. By having cameras, if the worst case scenario happens, you will have this person or people on camera to show the police.

3. Shutter Up

An even more noticeable prevention are shutters. Not only will these stop criminals from seeing into your premises, eyeing up what they may like to steal, but also they assist in preventing them from getting in full stop. This will make any kind of entry very difficult and time consuming, as it will take a lot of time and be potentially be noisy.

4. Security offices

If you leave your business empty in the evenings or for long periods of time, such as over the festive season, then security would be a good idea. Having someone in the building will deter anyone from thinking about breaking in. The thief won’t want the risk of being caught and this would no longer look like a safe bet.

5. Lock Down

If you don’t have shutters, you should at least have good sturdy locks on your doors and windows. This will be noticed by the person trying to break in, leaving them with less choices as getting in through a window will be loud, which may attract attention. Then to break in through the door will require a lot of time and equipment.
