We mentioned PAS 91 standardisation, the Common Assessment Standard and SSIP certification as a few key aspects that make Constructionline a worthwhile membership. So, what do they mean?

What is PAS 91 standardisation?

PAS 91 is a standardised pre-qualification questionnaire which has been developed to reduce the need for suppliers to complete a variety of different pre-qualification questionnaires for different, and in some cases, the same clients.

Developed directly by the British Standards Institute (BSI), the question set has been commissioned by Government and is a recommended common minimum standard for construction procurement.

With all public sector buyers needing to pre-qualify construction suppliers; inefficient buying practices can amount to huge amounts of wasted time and money for buyers and suppliers alike.

By delivering a standardised PQQ format, PAS 91 aims to:

Help suppliers understand what information is required from them at pre-qualification stage.

Increase consistency between various pre-qualification questionnaires and databases.

Help buyers identify suitably qualified contractors.

What is the Common Assessment Standard?

The Common Assessment Standard is a standardised set of questions crafted from existing systems (like PAS 91) and from expert input from clients, suppliers, and trade organisations. Constructionline have partnered with Build UK to deliver its Common Assessment Standard available for Gold Members.

The new standard championed by Build UK and the Civil Engineering Association (CECA) has been long in development with its aims aligned with the Constructionline ethos of saving Suppliers time and most importantly money in the pre-qualification process.

What is SSIP certification?

Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) is an umbrella body for assessment schemes with the common aim of reducing both duplication and costs for both buyers and suppliers.

It ensures that businesses operate to appropriate health and safety standards which are crucial within the construction sector. SSIP certification demonstrates that a supplier has demonstrated its adherence to the required safety standards, giving buyers peace of mind that they are working with an organisation that looks after the welfare of its workforce.
