How Can my Company Reduce it's Carbon Footprint?

In this modern age it's important that businesses are making the jump. For example from using coal and other energy sources that we now know are bad for the environment and change to other more efficient energy types.

carbon footprint

This is an important topic that has come to light in recent years. With industrial businesses making the biggest impact to the environment through the masses of resources used and pollution caused. Not only will you make a big environmental impact but it will also impact your energy bills with a positive effect.

It is now more simple than ever to make the change what with the changes last year in government switching can now quickly change a company's carbon footprint. Companies can now set the renewable power they buy against their carbon targets. Also for businesses producing their own renewable power they can offset this against a number of allowances. This is all under the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme which you can take a look at on the GOV.UK website.

This movement has become an issue that is important to change as it has a massive impact on the planet. We have all heard multiple times about global warming and making progressive action against our carbon footprint. This is the way forward to reduce the negative impact we are having on our planet. The government are helping this movement with incentives to companies such as lower costs on energy bills to help encourage their support.

How can your company make this change over? You can start by making small changes such as lighting, office equipment and temperature levels.

Lighting

A simple change for lighting can include changing over to energy efficient light bulbs. This is something that is spoken often about for you to do in your home but can help out even more in an office as the lights are on most of the day. You can also look at automatic sensor lighting. Many modern office’s will now have censored lighting systems so as to waste the least amount of energy as possible. This is also a great idea as you will never have to remember to turn off the lights again as they do it for you.

Office equipment

Most offices contain a great deal of computers which you could have set on automatic power shutdown. This is so if someone has not using the computer in a long time it will automatically shut off. If this sounds expensive (if you're having to look at replacing the computers you have) then you can manually switch off any equipment in the office that is not in use.

Temperature

Maintaining a constant temperature in the workplace can be difficult but there is a couple of ideas you can try. One of the best places to start, if possible, is having you company’s building well insulated. This will stop the heat from being lost in the first place allowing you to use less heating to start with. Another option is to get yourself a heating system that can regulate the temperature by shutting off, or when the room or building reaches a set temperature it turns itself back on again when it goes below this set temperature. This is something you can customise to the needs of your business.
