How To Keep Your Financial Office Dishwasher Eco-Friendly And Efficient

Any electrical appliance will use a lot of energy, your dishwasher is not immune from this. Although recent developments have meant they are using a lot less electricity than before, they will still require a measure of energy in order to effectively clean dishes. Your office dishwasher will require loading and unloading, with this task usually falling to the professional cleaner. It is essential you implement some best practices to ensure you are getting the most out of their contracted hours, are producing clean dishes and are being eco-friendly. With you in mind, we have collated some of our favourite tips to keep your financial office dishwasher eco-friendly and efficient.

Have a member of staff to load the dishwasher before the cleaner arrives/ have someone available to unload the dishwasher when the cleaner leaves

The average dishwasher takes 2 hours to clean your office’s cups, plates, cutlery etc. 2 hours is a long time, therefore it will be using a lot of energy and water. The length of time also means your professional cleaner may not have time to load, turn on and unload within their contracted hours. This means they are unable to perform a task which is outlined in the business’ requirements. Our clients have experienced this problem, we simply advise to have someone available to either load or unload the dishwasher so that the contracted cleaner can do the most with their allocated cleaning time.

Use a quick wash for mildly dirty dishes

Not every load will need a high heat or power setting to effectively clean. Make use of the lower power setting whenever possible (this is for dishes that are not heavily dirty or have stubborn grime). With offices mainly having mugs for hot drinks and small plates for biscuits, it is practical to make use of the lower setting as they do not need a vigorous cycle.

Air-dry cutlery rather than use the dishwasher’s heating element

Most dishwashers dry as well as clean dishes. This process uses a LOT of energy in order to produce the heat required to remove the water. However, this step is not necessary! You can turn this mode off and simply air dry items. Although a slightly longer process, the energy savings are too good to miss.

Do not use a pre-rinse cycle, it only wastes water and time

Most dishwashers are powerful enough to remove all grease and grime, therefore the time-consuming pre-rinse might not be necessary anymore. We advise to trial cleaning with and without pre-rinsing and seeing which works best for your business. However, be considerate that your cleaner will need to spend more time rinsing and loading than if they could load without the need for rinsing. Remember this when choosing a dishwasher for the office.

Only run full loads

The dishwasher will use the same energy and water for a half load than a full load, therefore always ensure you are only turning it on when it is full. If you are using the dishwasher multiples times a day rather than one big load, you will be wasting cleaning products, energy and water. This will also mean your cleaner is spending more time focusing on the dishwasher rather than cleaning other critical areas of the building.
