Static Guard

All businesses need security measures in place to keep employees, properties and goods safe and secure. Proper security will prevent and deter anyone from entering without permission, this could save the company time and money having to fix or replace anything. Security will always be something for businesses to invest in as there will always be threats and risks to a company. Windows & Doors - Make it good practice for all windows and doors to be checked they are locked before leaving and closing the workplace. In the morning, also check they are still locked. If they are not then you know someone may have entered the premises illegally. A combination door lock is ideal as you can only access if you know the passcode which should be kept confidential to employees only. Security System - An alarm that contacts the police and a single individual of the company if triggered are useful so that the extent of the break-in may be reduced or the burglar be caught. CCTV is another good security system to have as you are able to gather evidence and a better sense of safety for employees. Lighting - Appropriate lighting both indoors and outdoors can act as a deterrent to break-ins as it will appear that there are still people on premises. Lighting will also help staff feel safer in the environment, especially when arriving early or leaving late. Passwords - All computers and technology being password protected may deter people from stealing the items as they cannot be entered. Security cables will also make it harder for items to be removed, another deterrent. The security of these items does not only physically protect them, but protect all their contents which could be crucial to business productivity. Security education - Educating employees and visitors of your security measures in the workplace can maintain a safe environment. Every company will have different policies in place, therefore, it isn't a ‘one size fits all’ approach. All new employees must be taught the specific guidelines and current employees must be updated as and when the policy is updated. Regular teaching of the security measures will also keep them fresh in staff’s minds. Outside - Other parts of the workplace such as the car park and lobby must have security measures in place to keep them safe and secure as they are still technically a part of the workplace. The workplace has an obligation to provide a safe working environment, therefore efficient security is necessary. On the 19th of May 2018, Meghan Markle married Prince Harry. Everyone’s attention was on the typical wedding must knows such as the dress, flowers, cake, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, would Meghan’s dad make an appearance? However, one thing that was evident was that the security was prominent throughout the entire wedding. The Royal family wanted to ensure the safety of everyone involved, including the public who attended Windsor Castle to watch the wedding unfold. It is said £30m was spent on security for the big day, armed officers were seen walking the streets holding an array of firearms. The officers were told to ‘do whatever is necessary’, including shoot to kill, in order for no danger to come to anyone at Windsor Castle. As well as armed police there were undercover officers and security barriers installed to ensure safety of the guests. The security measures were executed by Thames Valley Police, with the wedding’s security being their biggest operation… ever. The cost of security was higher than at Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding day, with an estimated cost of £20m. The price was said to be so high due to the current terror threat which the UK is facing. It is said officers were prepared for anything, having every possible disruption planned for- from a small protesters group to a life-threatening terrorist attack. It is a company’s responsibility to provide a safe and secure working environment for its staff and visitors. Therefore proper and efficient security is a must, this includes features such as CCTV, authorised access, emergency exits etc. However, taking your security efforts further by introducing other measures could mean the difference in a life-threatening situation. Below is a list of best practices, in regards to security, for a workplace to follow: The employer must: Document all current security measures Look at current security measures, break those down and consider what measures are missing? What other measures could be implemented in the workplace? Are there any risks involved with not having those other security measures? Ensure that everyone has quick communication available if any problems arise Make sure staff have a way of contacting others in the workplace if needed Make sure that staff are trained and briefed on the security policies in the workplace Although following security best practices will help the workplace, there are a variety of further security solutions available, some of those include: Concierge A concierge enables you to combine the role of a receptionist and a security guard into one. This allows you to save money as you would not need to employ a separate receptionist- 2 for the price of 1! A concierge also allows your visitors to be welcomed by a member of security, making them feel more secure whilst in the establishment. Mobile Patrols Sometimes a permanent security presence could provide a sense of intimidation to some workplaces, this is when a mobile security patrol may be better suited. Mobile patrols will still be making sure the assets and staff are safe, but without being contained to one area. This may be particularly useful if there are lone workers at certain times of the day. Stewarding Stewarding is necessary for events as they are able to provide direction, guidance and protection for the crowd. Recently, security has become a concern for many people. By having Stewarding at your event it can really help people to feel safe and secure. Alarm activations The idea of attending premises when the alarm has been activated can be a scary thought for some. Therefore having a fully trained member of security to attend on your behalf can take that worry away. Particularly after they carry out a full check and search of the building, ensuring that there is no damage, theft or criminal activity occurring inside.
