Why And How To Clean The Workplace Ceiling

We predict there are 5 ‘reasons’ as to why you have not cleaned your ceiling thus far:

  1. You have the wrong tools or supplies
  2. There are pictures, artwork, mirrors any other items hanging on the walls
  3. You have ceiling fans
  4. There is furniture near or up against the walls
  5. You have poor lighting in the workplace

Equipment

Although these reasons are understandable, they are no excuse to not introduce your ceiling into your cleaning schedule. The ceiling is exposed to as many germs, bacteria and dirt as everything else in your office, therefore it must be regularly cleaned to keep the workplace safe and clean. Before you begin, it is important to gather the following equipment to help you with the clean:

  1. A feather duster to dust the walls before washing
  2. Protective cover, e.g. a towel or plastic sheet, to protect the floor from any drops of water
  3. A sponge. Natural sea sponges are recommended as they are not as harsh on paint
  4. A toothbrush, this can be used to clean in small areas which need particular attention
  5. A pair of rubber gloves to protect your hands from the chemical
  6. Goggles to protect your eyes from the cleaning substance
  7. Two buckets with a handle, one for washing and one for rinsing. There are also no-rinse solutions if you wish to save time and energy
  8. A stool or ladder if the ceiling is high up

Before You Start

Preparation is key, especially when cleaning your ceiling. Make sure to remove all mirrors or pictures which are hanging on the walls, as well as moving furniture away from walls so they do not get water damaged or damaged. Remember to turn off electricity just in case any water comes in contact with electricity, this is very important in regards to health and safety in the workplace.

Take your feather duster and dust all the walls and ceiling as this will help get a deeper clean as well as an easier clean. Remember to lay out your protective floor covers to prevent any water damage, or potential slip hazards, to the floors.

Time To Wash

Now you are prepared, make sure to have your chosen cleaning substance mixed with warm water (warm water works better at tackling dirt than cold water) in a bucket, whilst wearing your cleaning gloves and sponge. When dipping the sponge into the substance, ring out the sponge so that no unnecessary water drips onto the floor, you want it wet but not dripping. Use circular motions to scrub the ceiling/ceiling tiles, wetting the sponge when needed.

Once it has been washed with the substance, if it is not a no-rinse formula you must then use fresh clean water to rinse the ceiling. We recommend investing in a no-rinse formula to save time and energy!
