BEHIND THE SCENES AT WINNS

WINNS OBJECTIVES

As an SME it is easier for us to drive strategy than for larger organisations.  This differentiates us from our competitors as it  allows us to provide a bespoke service for each and every client no matter their size.

To ensure that bottom up and top down objectives are aligned as much as possible at WINNS, the following are undertaken each month:

MONTHLY
  1. Frontline staff are visited each month by their Account Manager who asks them what they think the Company should stop, start and/or keep doing?  All responses are captured and electronically and forwarded to the Head Office.  Personnel at Head Office collate responses and issue a report to the Board.  Each suggestion is personally responded to with an explanation and key issues are included in the monthly staff email.

WEEKLY
  1. Every week Head Office staff and frontline and middle managers are set activities that ask them to articulate their opinions on a variety of key issues.  These responses are collated and form part of the Monthly Staff Training Day where they are all discussed, resolved and future actions agreed.  The weekly activities ensure that by the training day everyone has already thought about issues and possible solutions and had meaningful discussions with their peers.  The training days used to be quarterly, but everyone agreed that this was too far apart and allowed for issues to fester and lower morale.  In addition, the training days allow for the need for change to be identified which speeds up innovative ideas and onboarding.
  2.

This team of Managers and Head Office personnel are also proactive participants in the creation of the Company GOSPA from which all quarterly targets are taken.

This same group of Managers meet on a Monday morning, either in person or via zoom to discuss weekly operational issues and whilst there is the capacity to express concerns or ideas, in reality Managers are more focused on operational issues than long term strategy at these meetings.

BOARD MEETINGS

The board meets once a month and ensures that:

  • All actions from the last Board Meeting have been completed.
  • Report on previous month’s activity according to their department.
  • Discusses operational issues across the Company.
  • Oversee the organisation’s strategy and arrive at agreed actions for next month that ensure strategy is relevant.
  • Agree mitigation actions.
  • Discuss and mitigate client feedback obtained by Managers at their client monthly meetings.
  • Discuss and mitigate frontline staff feedback obtained by Managers at their monthly welfare visit.
  • Considers environmental influences that can affect strategy and plan accordingly.

In addition throughout the month, the Directors undertake additional activities that prompt consideration of the  long term targets and direction for the Company.  Results are collated and discussed and changes to long term strategy may occur as a result.

Whilst all the above activities are labour intensive, WINNS considers it time and money well spent as it ensures that the Company is constantly creating value for its clients and staff.
