If you are hosting an event for guests, clients or employees you are responsible for their safety. A space that is comfortable, protected and embodies a feeling of security will mean a more enjoyable experience for visitors that will, in turn, reflect well on your business. With every event comes a reason for hosting it, this reason will be the main focus if the environment is safe and secure- if not, the focus can shift and the business intentions become redundant.

Get advice

If you are new to event management or feel your security plans need improvement it will always help to get advice. Security professionals are the best source for information as they have the experience and knowledge to suggest the best options for your event. Every event is different, therefore will have different requirements in order to be deemed safe. Therefore, advice from those who know the area best is necessary as it may uncover points of concern unknown before speaking to a professional.

Assess the event

As mentioned above, every event will differ in its security needs. Thorough assessments will need to be undertaken to make sure every possible risk is highlighted and effective prevention techniques are implemented into the event schedule. You cannot rely on previous event management experience to ensure high levels of safety, every event will need to be handled singularly.

Allow a budget for safety

If you are hosting an event you will need to collate a budget for security measures, no event will require zero security. In order to provide a safe environment, some sort of technique will always be needed, whether that be a static guard, stewards, alarm, CCTV etc. Again, the type of event will indicate which is best, talk to a professional security company to find out what methods are best. If no budget is allocated you run the risk of a breach occurring without efficient problem management taking place.

Only hire trained and authorised security professionals

It can be easy and cheaper to hire friends or family to stand as a security presence at an event. However, if an emergency was to occur, do they have the correct training to properly mitigate a situation? Emergency aftermath can vary from nothing to serious altercations, leaving this risk is not ideal as life is potentially at risk. Always ensure trained and authorised professionals are being used as security in order to keep everyone safe.

Screen all attendees

Although reaction is important to maintain safety, prevention is also key. One way to successfully prevent danger is to screen all attendees to ensure only those explicitly invited are attending and that no one is carrying anything they should not.

Prepare for the worst

As with anything, always prepare for the worst possible situation to occur. If this is addressed, planned and prepared the amount of damage caused can be controlled or even prevented allowing ask much protection for the event attendees as possible.
