WHEN SHOULD YOU INVEST IN PRIVATE SECURITY

10 SIGNS YOU SHOULD INVEST IN SECURITY

1 - NO LIGHTING OUTSIDE YOUR BUSINESS

If you have no lighting outside of your business site, it allows people to walk right up to it without being clearly seen.  This can give a criminal the perfect opportunity to try and break in.  An idea to solve this is light sensors that are activated when someone walks past.

2 - LOCATION VISIBILITY

If your business is located on the ground floor, you will need to make sure that people walking by at night, or whenever the building is empty, can't see straight in.  This may tempt someone to try and break into your offices/shop for the computers or other valuable items.

3 - NO CAMERAS

A basic deterrent to stop your property from getting broken into is a camera.  If this is visible to passers by, then it should be enough to prevent them breaking in.  Or, if they do decide to try anyway, then you have footage to show the police.

4 - A DOOR THAT'S OUT OF SIGHT FROM ANY ONLOOKERS

Some buildings have a side door access point which can be a security weakness for your building.  By being out of sight, this could give someone a good amount of time to try and break into the building.

5 - IN AN AREA THAT'S ALREADY HAD BREAK-INS

If your business location has had break-ins recently, you may want to invest in security as it's likely that they have been looking at other places in the area.  By having no security or minimal security, you are putting your company in jeopardy of potential breaking and entering.

6 - NO SECURITY ALARM

This is another great security item to have as the box on the building that makes potential intruders aware that an alarm will go off if broken into.  This will deter most criminals as it presents a risk not worth taking.

7 - WORK ALONE IN THE BUILDING

If at times you or your employees work alone in the building, then you should make sure there is security.  Someone leaving alone at night could be vulnerable from an attacker that may want to enter the building.

8 - BEING CLOSED OVER FESTIVE PERIODS

Your premises will also be vulnerable over the festive periods as criminals will recognise that most buildings are empty at this time.  This gives them a good opportunity to check these areas for susceptible buildings without looking suspicious.

9 - DO THE ENTRY POINTS LOOK SECURE OR OLD AND WEAK?

The doors and windows to your building should at the very least have locks on.  These may be visible to anyone looking around.  If the locks look secure, it may be enough to put them off.  However, if these locks look old and weak, they are probably going to try their luck.

10 - SHUTTERS ON THE DOOR AND/OR WINDOWS

Shutters are another good idea for your business as this deters people from being able to look inside your property.  It also shows straight away that it is going to be difficult to break in.
