Here are some of the top five cleaning myths that we have all either heard at some time or believed.
If only some of these were true as they would save us a lot of time and money. Many of us hear about these new ways to clean or how things this can be done quicker. But can it? Or are the old techniques the best? Let’s take a look at some that have been proven wrong.
Myth 1. String mops are best
We all assume the professionals must have this right. Right? Wrong! Whilst string mops are absorbent and will pick up larger spillages, a microfiber cloth is much more efficient. As studies have shown that these microfiber cloths remove more dirt and bacteria.
Myth 2. Coca-cola to clean your toilet
A bottle of Coca-cola is cheaper than a bottle of toilet cleaner and bigger but it really isn’t a better replacement for it. This is due to all of the sugar it contains, this sugar actually encourages bacteria. Yuck!
Myth 3. Bleach is the ultimate cleaning product
Nope unfortunately this is another myth. Actually bleach just makes things look cleaner, for example a stain is just made lighter. It does however kill all bacteria so it’s a better sanitiser than cleaner. So if you've been using bleach thinking it cleans everything it’s time to change that.
Myth 4. Vinegar will clean everything
False! We may try this as a cleaning alternative to help the environment but vinegar definitely isn't an all round cleaning agent. In fact it many even ruin some materials such as stone and wooden worktops or flooring.
Myth 5. The rain will clean my windows
If only this was true. It would save us so much time and money on window cleaning spray or getting window cleaners to do it for us! I’m sorry to say that the rain only moves around any dirt that is on the window already. This can make them look even more dirty.
